Resources not available in the University of Cambridge

Contact us using the "recommend new resource" form here and the librarian will get back to you with a response. Alternatively, where an article is not available from within Cambridge, researchers can apply for an Inter-Library Loan from another participating institution.

Both the University Library and the Betty & Gordon Moore Library operate an online service that is open to all registered users:

The University Library changed the borrowing rules for all Cambridge Libraries. See the mains changes below:

  • Loans are auto-renewed (excepted short loans)
  • Books can be recalled during your borrowing allowance. If so, return within 3 days or contact us here*
  • Automatic fines* will be charged for items recalled and not returned within three days
  • You will receive a statement on the second day of every month which shows a snapshot of what items you have on your account
If you are genuinely unable to return books because of illness or other circumstances beyond your control, please contact us here as soon as possible*.

*The Psychology Library is flexible about fines, talk to the Librarian if you have fines from our Library (contact us here)

Key messages about the new borrowing from Cambridge Libraries

  • Most loans (not short loans) will auto-renew, and it'll be done for you by the system. No need to worry about doing it yourself.
  • If someone requests the item you have borrowed please bring it back within three days.
  • If you need an item that's on loan to someone else, you can use the 'request' option in iDiscover to ask for it to be returned. Not sure how to do that? Help avaliable here.
  • Some items need to be fetched from a closed store before you may be able to borrow them - use the 'request' option in iDiscover.
  • Check your library account via iDiscover regularly.
  • You will receive a statement on the second day of every month which shows a snapshot of what items you have on your account, including overdue items and fines.
  • If you have fines, come to the library and explain your problem. The Librarian will help you or wave the fine depending on the justification.
  • Fines can be paid through the online fines payment system accessed from your library account.
  • Ensure that you check your Cambridge email account for notices which will tell you if you need to return.

Please ensure that you add all books to your account by using the self-issue machine.

To return books simply deposit them in the drop-box under the issue desk for processing.
